Review: Estee Lauder Eye Lift & Clarins Eye Serum.

I want eye’s that say “I go to the gym everyday and do a 100 Eye Lifts!”

IMHO nothing short of surgery is able to reduce or remove a puffy upper lid or eye bags, but as they say ‘hope springs eternal…’

I have hooded eyes, but 3 years of continuous crying over my dying mother gave me eye bags that makes me look like an alcoholic.

And the other problem I have is my crepey lids. Making liners jump and eye shadow look extra wrinkly. My hooded eyes I don’t mind as I was born with them, but the bags and lids are my bug bear.

I try and do what I can. I also Llook for an eye lift treatment without alcohol. Currently I am playing with 2 products for my AM and PM routines.

Estee Lauder’s Re-Nutriv Ulimate Contouring Eye Lift for the AM20160608_165632The cool ceramic tip is great as a massager and applicator, but what I am more interested in is what’s inside.20160608_165717It’s a light cream that’s fast absorbing. You will get a subtle brightening but I am guessing that is because of the Mica.  Unlike other’s on Youtube I can’t see immediate (seriously?!) results, but I do love how it feels and the finish.est2I squeeze out about 1.5-2 rice grains worth and massage one eye.

The ceramic tip is cool and has a nice soft edge that helps to give my upper orbital bone a lovely pressure-pointy-massage. The bottom, I tap tap tap. I don’t drag because I don’t like dragging my lower eye skin.

Short of surgery I don’t think I will ever be a 100% happy, but Estee Lauder group of companies have the might of money, research and technology to pump into their products so I am happy to experiment with this over the other products available here in Hong Kong.

The ingredient list is below. As with my food, I dislike  long ingredient list in my skincare and this one is HUGEEE. But in this case I bit the bullet and bought it. I have heard rave reviews about this and will update once I have used this for atleast 3 months

Insane ingredient list ……or Ingredient List for the Insane!

Update: 2018. I really enjoyed every drop of this eye serum and was going to buy one more but then I watched Drunk Elephant’s Tiffany Masterson’s interview with Caroline Hirons’ and bought that one instead. read post here.

Clarins Defining Eye Lift Serum Does not contain Alcohol and has Caffeine and Citric Acid which I like.IMGP2865I use this in the PM following up with my anti-wrinkle eye cream. This is a serum that is a gel, so for me additional hydration is necessary. I.e. I put an eye cream over it.

I pump a bit out and tap, press, tap, press all around the orbital bone and take it up to the temple. Wait for 3-4mins for serum to be absorbed and then put an eye cream over it.

This is Clarin’s, so of-course it advices the usual Clarin’s application malarkey, which honestly I can not be bothered to do. (Maybe that’s why I don’t have super toned-100 eye lifts a day eyes! haha)

I like how it feels and how my eyes are looking good, or is it just the placebo effect.

Kate Sommerville Skincare

I worship at the altar of Kate Sommerville and their air tight jar-pump dispenser is da bomb!

My impressions.

1.My HG exfoliator is the ExfoliKate Intensive treatment.I am NOT a ‘grainy bits in facial scrubs’ kind of a gal because I don’t believe in scratching my skin. I prefer chemical exfoliation in the form of AHAs and BHAs. The ExfoliKate is the only ‘grainy bits’ exfoliator I will invest in. The ‘grainy bits’ are gentle, formulated without plastic micro beads or crushed nut shells. It also contains a good cocktail of AHAs and BHAs.  I put an ingredient list end of this post because I am so impressed with this. (scroll down to see ingredient list)

2. The Dermal Quench got the nod from a few beauty editors, so have invested in a full size (after trying 2 minis before). I used it as a serum. I went on to invest in multiple re-purchases of this. I really enjoyed it. I now have my eye on her new formulation that has the added Retinol in it.

3. The Goat Milk is greasy and I didn’t like how it felt, so used it as a night cream. It’s the lactic acid in it that keeps me excited to keep using it. Will I re-purchase this one? Not sure.

Update 2018: I moved from a more humid Hong Kong to a relatively drier climate of Seattle. My skin has also aged and seems dryer. I am now thinking of investing in this again but continue to will use it as a night cream. However I need to rethink what AHA & BHA products I have in my PM routine and what can be replaced with this.

4. The Line Release eye cream. I have re-purchased this one over and over again. Its a light cream. I dab what’s remaining between my eyebrows and around my lips. It has silicones so you get that ‘soft/spongy/smooth’ feeling, which I am not that keen on, but it’s doesn’t have that pronounced slip which I detest.

Ofcourse the lines I have will remain and there is more to come. However a good eye cream keeping that area hydrated and strengthened is a MUST. No faffing around here.

I received a whole lot of samples (a very RARE sample landslide for Hong Kong. Probably because Kate Sommerville is trying to establish her brand here)

Samples

a. I am impressed with the IllumiKate CC cream. Its shade 3, looks light, but settles to look just…. amazing  on my NC40 skintone ! I like the luminosity. I don’t like the MAC cc cream, and the Clinique left me meh.  A definite ‘what would you like for Christmas darling?’ from my husband.

b. The Deep Tissue Repair moisturiser is a Caroline Hirons’ favourite. The sample feels lovely on the skin, absorbs quickly and great as a light day cream (wear your SPF separately please) But is it really deep tissue repair ? I doubt it. So while it feels lovely I am sure any light day cream is fine.

c. Kate Sommerville Daily Deflector SPF sachets. I absolutely love it. It has a very light consistency and while it applies white it soon disappears. I also love the fact that it is an SPF 50+ PA+++

Update 2018: I am now torn between the Daily Deflector™ Waterlight Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ PA+++ Anti-Aging Sunscreen and the Murad Environmental Shield City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 / PA++++. hmmm I just might go for the Kate Sommerville one 🙂
