Eye Lift: Dumbells For Eyes

I want eye’s that say “I go to the gym everyday and do a 100 Eye Lifts!”

IMHO nothing short of surgery is able to reduce or remove a puffy upper lid or eye bags, to one’s complete satisfaction.

I have hooded eyes, but 3 years of continuous crying over my dying mother gave me eye bags that makes me look like an alcoholic.

And the other problem I have is my crepey lids. Making liners jump and eye shadow look extra wrinkly. My hooded eyes I don’t mind as I was born with them, but the bags and lids are my bug bear.

To combat these I often think “South Korea! ” but till the surgeon’s scalpel 🙂 I try and do what I can.  Look for an eye lift treatment without alcohol. Currently I am playing with 2 products for my AM and PM routines.

Estee Lauder’s Re-Nutriv Ulimate Contouring Eye Lift for the AM20160608_165632The cool ceramic tip is great as a massager and applicator, but what I am more interested in is what’s inside.20160608_165717It’s a light cream that’s fast absorbing. You will get a subtle brightening but I am guessing that is because of the Mica.  Unlike other’s on Youtube I can’t see immediate (seriously?!) results, but I do love how it feels and the finish.est2I squeeze out about 1.5-2 rice grains worth and massage one eye.

The ceramic tip is cool and has a nice soft edge that helps to give my upper orbital bone a lovely pressure-pointy-massage. The bottom, I tap tap tap. I don’t drag because I don’t like dragging my lower eye skin.

It’s summer (read:super humid) in HK now, so I can get away without an eye cream over it and I know my moisturiser will seep upwards around the eye area…as skincare tends to do.

Short of surgery I don’t think I will ever be a 100% happy, but Estee Lauder group of companies have the might of money, research and technology to pump into their products  (never mind their business practices) so I am happy to experiment with this over others out there.

And let’s face it. Other’s (read:poorer companies) don’t contain Angel’s tears which I am sure this has, as Estee Lauder would have successfully bribed a few unsuspecting angels.

The ingredient list is below. As with my food, I dislike  long ingredient list in my skincare and this one is HUGEEE. But in this case I bit the bullet and bought it. I have heard rave reviews about this and will update once I have used this for atleast 3 months

Insane ingredient list ……or Ingredient List for the Insane!

Clarins Defining Eye Lift Serum Does not contain Alcohol and has Caffeine and Citric Acid which I like.IMGP2865I use this in the PM following up with my anti-wrinkle eye cream. This IS a serum. A gel, so I think additional hydration is necessary.

I pump a bit out and tap, press, tap, press all around the orbital bone and take it up to the temple. Wait for 3-4mins for serum to be absorbed and then put an eye cream over it.

This is Clarin’s, so of-course it advices the usual Clarin’s application malarkey, which honestly I can not be bothered to do.

Maybe that’s why I don’t have super toned-100 eye lifts a day eyes!

Again I like how it feels and how my eyes are looking. Is it placebo or is it really working ?

F***Yeah! Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist

I live in in Hong Kong and grew up in Bombay. Both are humid and hot, so facial mists aren’t my thang! Not with my face being pretty much damp all the time.

But lately with skin tending towards dehydration, a light spritzing of a mist has become a necessity, albeit from time to time.

The usual Evian, Avene and other fancy water based spritzers were meh, then I bought the Clinique Moisture Surge™ Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief. The glycerin gives a nice glow and hydrates but it stings the eyes, it was too wet and tended to leave big droplets. I am not re-purchasing.

I order pure Rose Water off iherb and sporadically use that to hydrate my face and use the MAC Fix Plus over makeup to get rid of that old-lady powdery finish to the skin, but I couldn’t  be bothered to buy more spritzers

And then……enter …Tatcha…. OH MY GOD ! I received the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist as a sample from my big shopping spree in Lane Crawford.IMGP2849

Its amazing ! Firstly the mist is even and soft. Even a few pumps doesn’t give you big fat drops of water on the face. It’s hydrating and leaves behind a glycerin-glow but not greasy. Not greasy even in HK summer !IMGP2847

Its summer in HK and super duper humid so I often I just spritz this on my face before the gym. Sometimes I will also spritz this in the morning after the whole night in aircon just for a quick relief.

Porn2Me: The Second Cleanse

My Skin – Normal non problematic.

I love, love, love a good facial cleanser. A clean skin that is ready to drink up all the treatment I pile on it after.

I am obsessed by the ingredients, what they do & how they do it and am frankly flabbergasted when friends buy cleansers willy nilly without checking the ingredients. (Hands on hips:”now why would you do that?”)

My current quest is to find Ms Right. The  perfect Ms.Second Cleanse. Second cleanse, the one I use to clean my face (after I have taken all my makeup off ).

This perfect Ms Second Cleanse, other than cleaning my skin, has to

1. leave my skin feeling cushioned,

2. should not leave a residue,

3. should be easily available in Hong Kong, drugstore or department store and

4. not be stupidly expensive.

So imagine my joy when I received 4 cleanser samples after my shopping spree at Lane Crawford

Kate Sommerville Gentle Daily Wash. Verdict: Nopekate

Nope ? What ? Why ? We ALL know I worship at the altar of Kate Sommerville. More than half my skincare IS Kate Sommerville.

But this cleanser ?  It’s gotta go, out the door ! Second ingredient is Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate,  A harsh, drying surfactant.

And I am ashamed to admit that in-spite of this scary ingredient I gave it a fair try. The first few times my skin felt stretched and parched as soon as I washed it off whilst I was still IN a steamy shower. Then as my skin got used to it ( sad how one’s skin can get ‘used’ to harsh ingredients) the feeling of brittle-ness was less but still dry, and once out of the shower, my face screamed for a moisturiser. Not good.

SEE YA!

Perricone MD Nutritive Cleanser  Verdict: Thanks but no thankspericconeWhy ? Well its has Sodium Laureth Sulfate as it’s second ingredient. Rated as ‘good’ on Beautypedia but many across the great-net aren’t keen on this ingredient, including Ms. Hirons.

I wont repurchase because of this SLES, but being beauty minded (greedy) I don’t mind testing it out. It’s Formulated with Dr. Perricone’s proprietary Alpha Lipoic Acid, this daily cleansing gel washes away surface impurities and makeup without stripping skin of its natural oils. Leaves skin looking refreshed, radiant and perfectly prepared for treatment

It does not leave my skin feeling stretched or dry after cleansing. I plan to use this and ONLY this over the next few weeks and see if I look exceptionally radiant after 2 weeks of use 🙂  But after that I am giving it away.

Sorry SLES but I worry you might age my skin !

Tatcha Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder Verdict: I Love It, But..IMGP2856

This has a scathing review on Beautypedia and Caroline Hirons does not mention it…but……OMG how I love it.

At first look it foams (Enemy #1), contains Alcohol, albeit way down at the bottom, (Enemy #2). I would have never used this if I hadn’t received this as a sample.

But love at first cleanse! This IS a cult cleanser amongst loads and loads of beauty v-loggers, including Little Bit Etc and now I know why.

Foam, Alcohol, Soap …and yet it does NOT leave my face dry and my skin feels well cushioned and clean!

This is what I did – Treadmill, washed face with Tatcha, then went in for a shower, shampooed, put on conditioner, sat sauna for 10 mins, washed off conditioner, dried off in sauna again and THEN, only then, did I put a serum on my face ! See the time gap between face wash and serum ? And my skin was not screaming.

Usually as soon as I wash my face with water and pat it dry , my skin is already screaming for a moisturiser.( water is very drying)

It’s Japanese magic alright.  And the other magical thing, NO stinging. Now this is Epic ! Even Neutrogena Gentle stings my eyes.

The only thing because it contains an exfoliant I would NOT use it everyday. Probably once or twice a week. I don’t like frequent exfoliation. Especially not if also using acid toners or other exfoliating scrubs.

Usage: I honestly thought this whole mixing with water before use is way too much work but it isnt ! The Japanese, man they just do everything amazingly well. tatcha

Look, just look at the packaging to dispense this powder! A smooth Open-Close slide with a tiny hole to tap out the powder. Easy to use, easy to travel with.

Tap Tap about 1/2tsp on palm,

wet other palm in  water,

rub palms to mix and

cleanse face !

Even the foam is softening, lol.

Rashmi, I recommend you buy it 🙂

13 JUNE UPDATE: This contains Papain. New research shows PAPAIN CAN BE ALLERGENIC AND CAN COMPROMISE SKIN BARRIER, so Rashmi I will probably not buy it for you

Glamglow  YOUTHCLEANSE™ DAILY EXFOLIATING CLEANSER.  Verdict: FK No!IMGP2855This one I am not even going to try. The second ingredient is our harsh friend again, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate.

Even while singing its praises on allure.com  (hmmmmm)  they have added the caveat ‘.. One caveat: Though it’s advertised as a daily cleanser, anyone with dry or sensitive skin may want to use this only two or three times a week since it leaves skin feeling thoroughly stripped of oil.’

I would not write Caveat, I would write Beware. Skin should never ever be stripped of its natural oils. But then again I would probably not review it & just toss it in the bin.

Or gift it to an enemy 🙂

Boots Mini Brush Set: Angled Brush

Are you like me ? Forever on a mission to find the perfect eye brush – for small hooded, crepey eye-lids like mine ? (not creepy, oh you bad person you!)

Well the  Angled Brush  from the Boots Mini Brush Set wins it for me

Why ? Its skinny and stiff and nestles nicely between my lashes and the eye-lid. It’s the skinniest of all the liner brushes I have. And to mis-quote Ms Kate Moss “nothing (not:tastes) is as good as skinny”brush smackdown

I use it to line (or push-line) my liquid liners and powder eye-shadow in my top lash-line.angledbrush

The other brushes in this set are a miss for me.

Screen Shot 2016-05-28 at 11.25.48 AM

The Powder/Face brush is stiff and hard and I gave that to hubby to clean his laptop key-board 🙂

Alas the size was perfect !!  In HK it’s difficult to find travel minis and the only one I see around is the Bobbi Brown travel brush set. However the BB face brush is HUGE. But this Boots one was perfect. For my face, for blush and even under my eyes.

I can’t work with eye shadow sponges, even in desperate times so that’s a miss .

I think the Concealer brush is terrible, but then again I don’t use a concealer brush, ever. I use fingers or a beauty sponge so I can’t really do a fair review.

However what I do use it for is to apply liquid liner on my bottom lash line.

bootsbrush1

NB: Liquid Liner on the lower lids is too harsh and pencil or powder is the way to go. However I have super oily lids and my pencils and powder runs down my face. And for that the Concealer brush serves to give a thick-ish smudged line on the lower lash line.

The Lip brush is also stiff and a bit too small for my lips, so I use it for clean ups.

lipbrushLip

This is not a brush set to end all brush sets and I wouldn’t recommend it. However I am happy I bought it because of this little angled gem!
